Liz Knox studied drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art under Sir Robin Philipson and David Michie, and graduated in 1971.

For the next 12 years she taught art in secondary education and worked in Spain and then as an art therapist in Long Grove Hospital in Epsom. She taught at Evening Classes in both Glasgow and Paisley and also lectured in drawing and painting in Further Education.

Liz became a member of the Advisory Panel at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen in 2007 and served for 3 years in that capacity.

She was elected President of the Paisley Art Institute and also as a Member of Council of Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts in 2010.

Liz has exhibited extensively including regular solo shows in London. She has received many awards over the years including The Aspect Prize 2003; The Bessie Scott Award; Diploma of the Paisley Art Institute; The University of the West of Scotland Painting Award; The Blythswood Square Quaich; The Arnold Clark Painting Award; and The Concept Gallery Fine Art Award.

She has exhibited by invitation at St Petersburg, Russia in 2003; the Design and Artists’ Copyright Society (DACS) exhibition at CISAC 2002 Conference, London; DACS 20th Anniversary Exhibition in The Mall Galleries, London 2004; “The River Runs Through It” Kelvingrove Art Galleries, Glasgow 2010; and also has held a major retrospective “Singular” at the Maclaurin Galleries, Ayr in 2012.
