Julie Dumbarton was born in Lancashire and studied Fine Art Painting at Loughborough University, graduating in 1996.

After graduation, Julie moved to Cumbria, drawing inspiration from the peaks, lakes and fells of this uniquely beautiful area. She now lives in the Scottish Borders, a move which brought a new, floral dimension to her work.

Painting in a former weaving mill that is bathed in natural light thanks to windows that run the entire length of the roof, Julie creates magnificent, rural scenes that utilise layers of oil paint and a rich wealth of colour to create fantastical images that visibly pop with vibrancy.

‘Colour plays the main role in what I create. A high or low perspective of densely knotted vegetation, a frantic pattern of grained wood or choking greenery that is so visually claustrophobic if has to be rescued by some sense of the landscape it lies within. I see it as bolts of illumination.’

Julie’s unique paintings are now highly sought after and are collected in Scotland, the UK and abroad. Her work features in a number of private collections.
