George Gilbert RSW – Biography

George was born and brought up in Glasgow and studied art at Glasgow School of Art 1957 – 61 under William Armour and David Donaldson. He then undertook a post graduate course (Highly Recommended) before taking up teaching duties in schools in Aberdeenshire, Glasgow and Fife.

In 1989 he left teaching to paint full time and since then has been exhibiting regularly in selected galleries throughout the UK. He has also exhibited with the RSA, RGI and RSW, the Cleveland Drawing Competition and the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.

George has held a number of solo shows over the years and his work has received numerous awards including the WG Gillies award (RSW), the RSW Council Award, the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons Glasgow Award (RGI) and the Scottish Arts Club Award (RSW).

His paintings are in a number of public collections including The Nuffield Collection, London, Paintings in Hospitals, Scotland, Fife Council, St Monans heritage Collection and the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Glasgow.
