Aine Divine is an accomplished portrait artist who has been painting professionally for 15 years. Born in 1970 in west Cork Ireland, Aine studied Art and Design at the Crawford College of Art in Cork where she gained an Honours Degree in Fine Art (painting). She then attended the University College Cork for two years to gain the Higher Diploma in the principles of teaching art.

Aine (pronounced “Onya”) completed a number of important commissions while still resident in Ireland, including a portrait of the pianist ‘Charles Lynch’, the high court judge ’Harvey Kenny’ and a painting of the Irish Attorney General’s father presented to him on his inauguration.

A selection of Aine’s portraits were shortlisted for exhibition in the ‘Irish National Portrait Awards’ three years in a row, and her oil portrait of J.Russell was an award winner in the third year.

Aine moved to Scotland in 1996 and now lives and works in Roslin, Midlothian.

Since moving to Scotland she has exhibited widely and has undertaken many prestigious portrait commissions. In 2004, three of her portraits were selected for exhibition by the Society of Miniature Painters at the Mall Galleries in London.

Not long after, Aine was selected by Rolf Harris as one of the portrait artists to paint Dr. Mo Mowlam for his BBC TV show Star Portraits. In competition against two other established portrait painters Aine’s portrait was the one chosen by Mo Mowlam for installation in her home.

Working predominately in oil and watercolour, her portrait style, while realistic can be described as painterly and loose.

Aine has since moved on to painting other subject matter and it is this work that brings her to the gallery as part of the Gullane Masters Exhibition 2010.
